ten tips for being more truthful

Ten tips for being more truthful
-Barbara A. Lewis
TEN TIPS

1. Make a commitment to tell the truth.
Quote: The highest compact we can make with our fellow is, -- ‘Let there be truth between us two forever more.’
- Ralph Waldo Emerson
2. Tell someone about your commitment.
Quote :If your energy is as boundless as your ambition, total commitment may be a way of life you should seriously consider.
- Joyce Brothers
Reflection: What commitment to tell the truth is to not lie about things. Whether it be for school or work or even with friend and families why lie about it. Stick to your word being true not false. One day the truth will be told and you will stand as a lair or your conscious will kill you. Commitment is a big responsibility. You can make a commitment out of anything whether it be telling your mom you will do the chores she assigned you. Or even to doing your final draft for school. Or who knows just getting to work on time instead of late and getting a lecture from your boss or them getting the wrong idea from you just from breaking a commitment you made yourself. Don't let people or situations interfere with your truth and commitment. Yes, many time ones will get overturned to doing other things but don't let the obstacles get in the way.

3.Think before you give a dishonest answer.
Quote:Time will inevitably uncover dishonesty and lies; history has no place for them.
-Norodom Sihanouk
Reflection:After you reflect you know you can’t be dishonest so you say the truth. Often we just speak but when we reflect on the words we are speaking, we can change what we intitially planned to say. This helps us understand the situation better and it involves a deeper thinking as to what we ourselves would react when hearing the answer. We need to think about what we are going to say before we say something that is not true which leads people to believe are doing something for that reason when it is not true at all.

4. Be careful of when and how you use exaggeration, sarcasm, or irony.
Quote:"There are some people so addicted to exaggeration that they can't tell the truth without lying."
-Josh Billings
Reflection:  Exaggeration and sarcasm and irony are all well depending when and how you used them. Many people take advantage of it and use it for lies. A lie depending on the status is sometimes okay for a joke to play around but not for serious situations.

5.Be careful not to twist the truth or leave part of it out
Quote:The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is.
 -Winston Churchill
Reflection: No matter how much you try to cover up a lie and make it realistic the truth will always come out. I can guarantee you will break or your conscious will bug you so much to tell the truth. Yes sometimes a lie isn't a big deal but there's certain points the lying should stop and truth will be told. To lie it is a crime because you will lie find it easy to do so and think everything will be alright and continue to lie it will become an addiction for you. But is lying worth it all because lets say someone know the truth you have to think, will people be hurt, will people trust you, will there just be disappointment.

6.Don;t indulge in little white lies.
Quote: "Lies will always spin out control; little lies will gradually become big ones.
 -Kemmy Nola
Reflection: Don't let people or situations interfere with your truth and commitment. Yes, many time ones will get overturned to doing other things but don't let the obstacles get in the way.We need to think about what we are going to say before we say something that is not true which leads people to believe are doing something for that reason when it is not true at all.A lie depending on the status is sometimes okay for a joke to play around but not for serious situations.I can guarantee you will break or your conscious will bug you so much to tell the truth. 7. Watch out for silent lies.
Quote:"The cruelest lies are often told in silence."
-R.L. Stevenson
Reflection: What this means is that every lie is a lie no matter if its big or small or even nothing at all. Yes, many time ones will get overturned to doing other things but don't let the obstacles get in the way.A harmless or trivial lie, especially one told to avoid hurting someone’s feelings. These lies can backfire however, and even though they are small, they are still lies. Lies do not benefit and they put you at risk of creating a bigger problem or lie.

8. When you catch yourself lying, throw your mouth into reverse.
Quote:Lying increases the creative faculties, expands the ego, and lessens the frictions of social contacts.
-Clare Boothe Luce
reflection: Being truthful has always been important. Leaving any detail out of the truth can be considered lying. The full truth is the only real truth. Not being truthful can get you into trouble. You can not hide the truth forever. You may be able to work around it but you will never escape it.

9. Talk your yourself
Quote: “Self-talk reflects your innermost feelings.”
― Asa Don Brown
Reflection: This means that always speak to No one else will ever know you better than yourself. It is impossible because you are a uniquely yourself. When you lie the person that you are hurting the most is yourself. It is direct collateral damage to your self character. When you are honest to everyone else and honest in general, you are honest to yourself.

10. Treat Yourself when you tell the truth
Quote:"Treat yourself with love and respect, and you will attract people who show you love and respect."
-Unknown
Reflection: When you tell the truth which should be always treat yourself. Do the right things in life that life will bring your bright things for you. Sometimes you won't even have to treat yourself because life will bring bright things your way.:) Why get treated right when you know you don't deserve that is called misery of one own's will. Why live with that misery when you can tell the truth and tell the truth.

Reflection: They benefit us because they teach us in general about lying and how it harms us. Well also harms people around us but in general we all get affected by it . It could be a small lie or a big lie but its all the same.  Now I apply it by being truthful to myself and others. not telling lies as well. They go with my life planning goals because  it will demonstrate that my only way to success is doing actions that will get me to success.
