How the internet works

So everyone deals with the internet whether it be for work, school, or individual use for like entertainment or news or media. Everyone has different uses for the internet but do we really know how the internet works, the majority of people do not know this. Because the Internet is a global network of computers each computer connected to the Internet must have a unique address or also known as IP address. Now lets say in messaging how dies it get from your computer to the next well the message must be translated from alphabetic text into electronic signals, transmitted over the Internet, then translated back into alphabetic text.
